RIP my dear Momo

My dearest Momo passed away today.

I found in her usual spot - all curl up inside her food bowl, sleeping peacefully when i come back from work. The only difference between today and the other days is that she never wake up from her sleep even though how much i coax her with the fresh vegetable or fruits. Usually upon smelling the vege, without opening her eyes, she will start to move her little arms around and stretch them as far as possible to feel for the food. Once she located it, she will grab it back and start munching it while her eyes are still closed.

Her favourite past time when she is wide awake - is running on her wheel. She can run for hours and usually her wide awake time is from midnight to early morning. To tease her, if you take out the wheel from her tank, she will always have this frantic look and start banging her hands on the wall of the tank - like saying "let me out, where is my wheel" until you put back the wheel into the tank and she will go all calm and happy inside her wheel again.

My sister and I had a hard time when we bury her little body in the flower bed behind my house today.

Momo, thank you for staying with me these 2 years.
You will always be in my heart. Love you lots.

On 18 September 2006, a little golden puppy is born. About 2 months later, he was seperated from his siblings and mom and brought to a new home.

His new owner took a look of him, thought for many days and finally named him as shushu (after a loyal dog character in One Piece anime).

Little shushu was full of joy and michieve all the time. He likes to steal sis's slipper and hide it his owner bed all the time, which leave the sister fuming mad. However, he can easily get out of trouble by melting sister's heart with a sad look.

He has a favourite companion at that time which he never seen without it (until he grow a new set of teeth and promptly destroy it into pieces around 5 months old)

When he was 4-5 months old, shushu tried to sneak out of the gate and injured himself at the grille there. The wound was quite serious and almost gave his owner a heart attack.

The wound heal nicely and the owner thought the worst was over.

Unfortunately, around 7 months old, shushu caught tick fever and has to be hospitalised. It was very serious - we almost lost shushu again......but shushu fight back and survive the ordeal.

We were so relieved, but one month before his birthday, shushu caught pneumonia while boarding at a kernal and almost die again.

The owner was quite heartbroken and wonder if shushu ever survive his first birthday. But 18 September 2007 come, and shushu celebrated.

Well, times passes by - shushu went for his first swimming trip and dog event, got himself 2 new siblings, chew lots of carpets, goes into barking competition with the neighbourhood dogs in the middle of the night, got poisoned by a toad and got biten by a stray dog as well. (><)

And as at today, Shushu is celebrating his 2nd Birthday!!! The owner is feeling nostalgic and hope shushu has many more birthdays to come :)

Kero is One!

Hoho, today is my little brother, Kero's barkday!!!
The mini fella has finally turn one (though he still look as small as ever)...hmmmm.

Since today is his barkday, our owner got him cupcake to celebrate! It is plain vanilla flavour and our owner put a small dog biscuit on top of it for decoration.

Kero goes on an adventure!

Last Sunday, we ditched my big brother, shushu at home and went for a CKCS gathering in KL.

Abu and juliet's mummy was very nice to come all the way from KL to Ipoh, to be our guide (as my master is direction blind!). We started our journey around 11am and reach KL at about 1pm. We also stop by Setapak to pick up my aunt, chelsea and her human, Hun.

We reached the gathering place after 2pm. There was lots of ckcs there!
Abu and juliet proceed to get acquainted with the other ckcs while i was quite shy at first.

There was lots of food there and we got to have some too!

There was a nice pool at the gathering place and we get to swim in it.
(p/s: Actually, it was more like the human keep throwing us inside the pool and we, the doggies keep swimming frantically back to the shore - evil humans!)

At around 5 something, it is time to go home and the humans towelled us dried.

We have a wonderful time at the gathering. I met so many relatives and got a chance to test my swimming (dunking) skill. Thanks to Jean and Derrick for inviting us and thanks to abu's mummy, elaine for accompanying us on the journey.

Last Saturday, kero's brother, Abu and his sister, Juliet come over to our house to stay for the weekend! Their owner, Elaine, was attending an gathering in a nearby town and drop by for a visit. :)

After chatting for a while, Elaine drove off for her gathering. Abu got a bit homesick and stay near the door to wait for elaine...awww

Shushu was very excited to meet new friends. So excited that he couldn't stop barking and following them......

Our owner has no choice but to put on a muzzle on him so not to disturb the neighbours.

The funny thing is, after muzzle, it was the other doggies turn to follow shushu around. :D

The furkids play a lot the rest on the day and by night time - they were so tired, they sleep like dead!

Poisoned by a toad

Hi. This is shushu's owner here.
Yesterday was a tiring day for me. I was working late and reach home after 8pm. Both shushu and kero was waiting for me at the door and I was very happy to see them.

After playing with them for a while, i sat down in the dinning area to have my dinner. As usual, both of them will be standing at the playpen barrier between the living room and the dinning area, giving me pitiful looks in hope of getting some tidbits from me. Usually they will stand there until I finish my dinner.

However, after a while, I notice both of them were missing at the barrier and heard a faint "plok plok" (jumping) sound. I thought both of them might be chewing something they shouldn't (making mischief again) so I went and have a look.

To my horror, I saw a small toad has managed to jump into my living room (i don't know how) and shushu and kero has it trapped near the staircase. They were pawing it and it was jumping around. Knowing that toad are poisonous, I quickly walk toward them but the moment shushu saw me, he grabbed the toad in his mouth and try to run off. He couldn't go far as just a few second after holding the toad in his mouth, he split it out and start shaking his head vigorously. I can see that he was very distressed and salivating a lot.

I quickly shouted to my sister to come down while holding shushu, as he make another attempt to grab the toad again. The small toad is not helping as well as it just sit there. I told my sister to remove the toad and after she bring it to the back of the house, I release shushu and put kero in his crate. Kero was running around trying to play with shushu and distracting everyone. I wet a small towel and try to wash shushu mouth with it.

He resist and started puking foamy liquid. I got scared and started calling his vet for help. He gave me some first aid measures for poison:

1) Firstly, bring the dog to the nearby pipe and wash his mouth thoroughly.
(I brought shushu to the bathroom and use the shower to wash his mouth.)

2) Dilute some salt in warm water. Wet a towel with it and wash his mouth with the salt solution.

3) Give him some antiacid (gastric pill) and some milk to dilute the poison swallowed.

I didn't any gastric pill or milk so after washing shushu mouth with the salt solution, i drive out to the nearest 7-11 to get some. After giving him the medicine and cleaning the mess (puke and saliva on the floor), it was almost 10pm. I released kero out and try to continue my dinner but not much appetite left.

I continue to check on shushu throughout the night to make sure he is ok. He look fine this morning (the usual running around with kero) before i go off for work so I am much relieved now.

Shushu always give me unexpected surprises ever since i have him as puppy - ticks fever, pneumonia, ear infection, etc. I have learn to cope quite well with emergencies now. I also learn a lot on puppy care from the incidents, but still - it is not very good for my heart everytime it happens. :(

Be careful dogs owners!

Our owner saw this today at a local forum. A dog owner lost their beloved pitt bull called Molly, and posted in a lost and found thread. The owner suspected their dog was stolen. One week plus later, the owner posted back to said that they were reunited with their dog after paying a ransom, but unfortunately their dog passed away 3 days later due to much abuse from the kidnappers.

They have attached this article in the forum to inform people of what happen to their dog and warn others to be careful. They also hope that other people will help to spread the news around to warn more people out there.

Our owner feel very sad and angry to read about this case. There are truly unscrupulous people out there who will do many evil things just to get some money. They first kidnap the poor dog and abuse it and when it doesn't have much more life in it anymore, they try to get more money by calling back the owner and demand a ransom just to release the dog. Poor Molly! May she RIP and hope the people who does this to her will get what they deserve in the future.

So to all the dog owners out there, be more aware of your surrounding and do keep your babies extra safe just in case!

Finally an update!

Hi all! We are back after a month of absent.
Our owner was feeling super lazy to help us to update our blog, and we have almost exhausted all method to get her lazy butt moving - including daily stepping on her toes by shushu, while kero bounce like a spring on her......After much effort,she finally agreed to post a little update.

We are doing ok here, nothing much happening. :)
Well, last 2 weeks we are under ticks attack so our owner has barred us from our daily walk and confine us in the house most of the time. We were quite bored with nothing to do. Luckily miss sister was found a nice way to keep us exercised and entertained.

It's quite hard to see, but in the video she is throwing our kibbles one by one and we have to "hunt" them down to eat them. Isn't it fun?

However, the owner said I am a lazy bum and lack of stamina, coz halfway playing i got tired and plopped down next to the sofa while kero is still going at it energeticly.
(owner: yah! shushu big size only - lousy stamina, shushu: =_=")

After >1 week of quarantine and some frontline, we are now ticks free. Yay! Unfortunately, the weather take a turn for the worst and it starts raining heavily in the evening everyday and we couldn't do our daily walk again. What a bummer! We hope the weather will change soon so we can resume our daily walk again.

Our owner also took a video of kero in a moody mood after his weekly bath. He always does this after taking his bath and before he take a nap. Weird Kero!

Kero's first visit to the groomer

Last Sunday, I decided to bring shushu and Kero to the groomer. This will be Kero first visit to the groomer while it is be shushu's 4th visit.

Before going to the groomer, I took kero to shushu's training class for some socialisation. There, he was quite curious of other doggies but when other human approach him, he tend to shy away from human. He keep looking for shushu and me while we were doing our training. He was very quiet but curious throughout the class, only near the end of the class, Kero become bored and started barking for attention.

After the training class, it was time for the grooming session. I brought both of them to a new groomer called Pet Image for grooming. There was 2 poodle there first so we had a wait a while for our turn. Both Kero and shushu were quite happy to explore the new place, running here and there. The groomer was a friendly person and she gave them some water and a squeeky toy to play with and they happily obliged.

Finally, it is Kero turn but when the groomer wants to bring kero to the grooming table, he quickly hide in his carrier and refused to come out at all. The groomer has to pull him out from his carrier..... Kero look very scared when he was on the grooming table. Throughout his session, he didn't dare to move but keep his gaze on me. Awww, poor thing!

Shushu, on the other hand, was happily greeting everyone and even tried to jump on the groomer. When Kero went into the grooming room, shushu also wanted to go in and he keep jumping at the glass window to look at kero. I have no choice but to leash him back and keep him at my side as I am afraid that he will break the glass window.

After a while, it was shushu's turn and he ran happily into the room. However, he was so energetic inside, it take just 1 groomer to keep him still while the another one to trim his fur. Throughout the grooming session I can hear shushu barking while the groomer told him no. Naughty fella!

Finally, both of them are done. They feel so soft and smell so nice!

When we reach home, both of them was so tired they just plopped down and sleep.

Dog saves woman from watery death

SEREMBAN: A dog seeing that its elderly owner was in danger of drowning, when flash floods struck Kampung Ulu Temiang yesterday, did the only thing it could do. It didn't stop barking until help came along.

The woman, who suffers from chronic asthma, was on the verge of drowning in her wooden house, as flood waters kept rising steadily, but her loyal pet refused to leave her side.

However, most of her neighbours had left their half-submerged houses to seek shelter from the floods, resulting from a two-hour downpour which began at 2.30pm, and did not hear the canine's frantic call for help.

The dog's desperate barking eventually alerted a team of fire and rescue personnel, who aided by some neighbours, went to the house and found the woman, in her 60s, shivering and helpless, barely able to keep her head above the rising water level.

Bernama learnt that it was only when the firemen rescued the woman that her faithful dog left her side and swam to safety, proving that dogs are indeed man’s, or in this case, a woman’s best friend.

new floormat...

Hello. Our owner finally take a break and update our blog.
Here is a picture of us in the kitchen waiting for our food to be ready.

You can also see the remaining floormat of the house in the picture. The rest has been destroyed by shushu. While preparing our food, our owner caught kero doing something naughty.

Speaking of floormat, our owner recently bought another one (eventhough she promised herself that she wouldn't waste anymore money buying them). She just couldn't resist.

Busy month for owner

Our owner is very busy with her work recently.
She has not much time to help us to update our blog as well as to visit our friends website. In fact, we feel quite neglected at home now.

Shushu: She doesn't even have time to take me out for my daily walk.
I have to vent my frustration by destroying 2 more floormat in the house (including the recent new one).

Owner: yah, our house is floormat -less now except the one in the kitchen thanks to shushu. He has taken a liking to bitting them but i have not much time to correct this yet.

Kero: Since owner has no time to guard me, i started peeing and pooing in the kitchen n living room again.

Owner:.......
Kero's housetraining drop back to 50%. He has grown a bit now though. His fur is slightly longer now and he is not so skinny as before. (probably from heavy begging of treats from grandma who is visiting recently)

Momo: (blur) I am still ok! I like to shift my new wheel around though.

Owner: Hopefully after this month, my work schedule will get better and I will have more time to update the blog again.

Chinese New Year celebration

Hello, this is shushu. Our owner is feeling much better now so she help me to update our blog a bit. I am going to tell you all a little bit of my CNY celebraton.

For reunion dinner on Wednesday, I was very sad as I got left at home while our owner brought kero back to her hometown. Though she cooked me a very delicious dinner and gave me a big bone to chew before she left, I still feel very sad. I heard that there was a lot of food for reunion dinner (3 tables long) and I wasn't there.

Well, if i was there, I would have beg everyone and I am sure I will get lots of tidbit of the delicious food there. The only consolation I had is that I heard Kero was caged inside the crate during the dinner. He didn't get to taste those food also.

(owner: Kero was very shy when we were at the hometown. Even though I left the travelling crate door wide open, he refused to come out and will only peek from his crate. I think he was a little overwhelmed with the people - i have a huge family there!)

However, I got to visit the hometown for the 1st day of CNY. Yay!
Our owner and miss sister came back from hometown early in the morning to fetch me. We reached the hometown again late morning. There were really a lot of people around so our owner set up a playpen for us and dressed us nicely in CNY costume. Everyone came and look at us. I was very happy with all the attention, while kero is still shy and he keep sticking close to me. Grandma came and gave us a angpow!

By afternoon, the weather was really hot - even with a portable fan blowing at us, we feel so lazy and tired.

Kero even took a long nap. I couldn't take any nap at all coz everytime i wanted to close my eyes, the little cousins will come and look at me. Do they want to play with me? but everytime I invite them (bark!) they will run away again. Hmmmmmm.............. Miss owner said my big size and loud bark scared them away. She then took off our costume coz it was very hot and gave us some ice to cool us down. That was nice!

In the evening, we had a BBQ dinner. I can smell wonderful smell from outside and got very excited.

Miss owner (and the small cousins) gave me lots of sausages to eat - it was very delicious. Some of the cousins were now braver and they even climb inside the playpen to play with me.

I was very happy.

Kero, however, was deemed cute and he was passed from one relative to another who was taking turn to hug him. He doesn't look very pleased though, hehe....

After the BBQ, we travelled back to Ipoh. We all sleep like baby when back. It was very tiring but fun.

Hello, Momo the hammy is here again.

Shushu is taking a break due to his injury and Kero is somewhere sulking, so I thought i will pop by to say hello. As you know, this chinese new year is the year of rat and my owner said I should be happy coz I am a part of the rodent family so this year will be my year. Yay!! even our blog has pictures of hammies with the CNY greeting on the top. This has made me very pleased.

However, one thing i am not pleased about is that my silly owner has this crazy idea to take a photoshoot of me with some CNY stuff to make it more festive....

I am feeling better....

Hello. This is shushu here.

Thanks everyone for your well wishes and concern. Today my owner brought me to the vet to take off the plaster on my ear and to check the condition of the wound. My owner has to hold me very tightly for the vet to take off the plaster because I got too excited seeing my vet, I keep jumping at him and refused to let him touch my ear.

here is the view of the inner ear. Notice the scar actually went in quite deep and the bleeding is still fresh.

p/s: those brown stuff are my dried blood. My owner wanted to clean it but it was paintful to me so she decided to leave it first until the wound has completely dried up.

It was painful I tell you. I am sorry for running out of the gate and for jumping at the dog. Really, I am sorry. See how sorry I look?

Owner (cycnical): Yeah, right......

Actually, shushu is really feeling much better. The vet examined his wound and confirmed that it is healing. There is a slight swelling but the vet said not a big deal. Shushu stitches can be removed on this saturday / sunday, which is a good news :). This is actually what the current shushu look like now...

Except for the patch of missing fur at the ear and the injury, he is still the same barky and happy go lucky shushu. Once again, thanks everyone for their concern.

p/s: We met with the abandoned GR today at the clinic. He is going home with his new owner today when we arrived at the clinic. He look really happy and healthly. I didn't manage to chat with the new owner or to say goodbye to the GR though, coz I was busy restraining shushu in case he decided to jump on other dogs at the clinic.

Shushu is bitten by stray!!!

Yesterday after his morning walk around 7.45am, I accidentally open the autogate and shushu ran out. Before we manage to catch up with him, he saw a nearby stray dog and ran up to play with him. The stray seeing a big dog approaching, got defensive and attack shushu. Shushu's left ear got bitten badly and torn. He was bleeding badly by the time we reach home. There was blood all over him and he keep shaking his ears and more blood splatter over the floor, window and wall.

We manage to stop the bleeding around 8.30am and call his vet. I brought him over to his vet at 10am. The vet start checking on his wound but the moment he touch his ear, shushu yelp very loudly. He keep using his mouth to move the vet hand away from his ears and refuse to let him touch. The vet has no choice but to give him anesthetic to calm him down and make him sleep so he can have a better look at the wound.

After shushu dozed off, the vet shaved off his left ear fur and we can see that part of shushu's ear has been torn. The vet also mentioned that one of shushu main blood vessel located at the ear was bitten open hence the nonstop bleeding. Poor thing, it must be very painful to him, yet he never uttered a sound after the dog bite him but can still wag his tail and smiled at us.

The vet then proceed to clean shushu wound and then stitch it back up. He also gave shushu another injection to help the blood clotting as the wound keep bleeding even after it has been stitched up. I stayed at the clinic and waited for shushu to wake up. He woke up around 12.00 noon. He look very tired and moody but still followed me into the car. When we reach home, he couldn't come down from the car so I let him sleep a while inside the car with both door opened. Shushu finally got down from the car at 1pm. The vet said not to get him excited to ensure that the wound will not open and start bleeding. It is also the best to confine him so he can rest and recuperate. I let him sleep at a quiet corner of the house and barriered the area with playpen. I also cage Kero away so he wouldn't disturb his big brother since Kero likes to stay close to shushu and play bite bite with shushu ears.

I went back to work in the afternoon as I only manage to apply half day leave. When I come back from work, shushu already wake up fully and be his smilling self again.

He only got his dinner and water at 8pm as per the vet instruction. The vet mention not to give any food / water to him earlier as he may not have proper control of his muscle yet due to the effect of the anesthetic. This may cause him to choke on the food/water or worse the food/water travel to his lungs and cause complications there. After his meal and a toilet break, I put him back to his confinement area again to let him rest. Kero is now set free and he stay close to shushu.

After 4 days, I will bring shushu to his vet to remove the plaster at his ear and for checkup on his wound. The stitches will only be taken out 14 days later.

This incident happen because of my carelessness. It wasn't the stray dog fault as it is just being protective of itself. It wasn't shushu's fault for running out of the house as the gate was opened. The whole thing only happen in less than 15 minutes but the damage is indeed great. Seeing shushu like this make me very sad and regretful of my carelessness.

Hello! This is shushu here.

Our internet connection has been very bad since last Sunday so our owner is facing some difficulty in updating our blog. We could not visit our friends' blog much too.

As Chinese New Year (CNY) is just 2 more weeks away, we start feeling festive with all the chinese new year song blaring from the local radio station as well as the decoration put out by the neighbour and shopping complexes. Our owner will be going back to her hometown for CNY and she plans to bring us to visit her hometown on the first day of CNY. For the visit, she bought me a nice red t-shirt as my CNY cloth. (Red is consider to be a auspicious colour for CNY).

Abandoned GR

My owner bought me to our vet today, coz my swelling at my paw there doesn't get any better one week after the injury, and she is feeling a bit paraniod about it. The good news is the vet take a look at my paw, told my owner "small matter, the swelling is caused by some pus buildup, similar to a "pimple" (=_=") thingy". He then squeeze the pus out, clean the wound and pronounce me fit and the wound should clear in a few days time. Yay!

While we were there, I heard the vet asked my owner "would you consider getting another furkid? I have a very nice 2 years old neutered male GR for adoption here." Eeeh? Hey! I thought we already got a "kero" as my play~~thing~~ mate, why would I need another one?

Anyway, irregardless of my ~~barking~~ protest at the reception counter there, miss owner went in and take a look at the GR. Per miss owner, he was a handsome fella, with big head and soulful eyes. He even squeeze his nose against the grille to get closer to my owner (how dare he!) and uses the "sad and soulful eyes technique" to tempt my owner when she leaves....Hmmmph!

The vet told miss owner that the poor GR have been abandoned by his owner when they heard that he needed surgery. Actually, the GR testicle got injured and swelled very badly and neutering was the only option to save his life. However, the owners just abandon the dog at the clinic when they heard the diagnosis. The vet was very kind to keep him and perform the surgery foc.The GR is on his recovery now! The vet said once the GR heal, he will be looking for a dog lover and a good responsible owner to take good care of him.

I know miss owner is very tempted to adopt the GR. I heard her asking miss sister the question. But owner already have an agreement with miss sister to keep max 2 dogs in the house, and that's kero and me. Miss sister reply that she will kick all of us out if owner dare to bring another dog in. Well, I appreciate miss sister help to prevent the GR from stepping into the house, but does she has to include kicking kero and me out as well? Just kick the owner out will be fine! Hmmph!

Our GR friend has found a new owner!! Our owner went to visit him yesterday and the vet informed her that someone has agreed to adopt him already. :) He will go home with his new owner end of this week after the vet take out his stitches! We wish him all the best and hope he be happy in his new home.

Kero is in dreamland.

While in dreamland, Kero loves practising his qigong balancing move. Mind you, this is one of the most complicated movement. (for a 5 month pup...hehe)

Firstly, the body must be shaped like a "C". Head and the tail can be used to assist in forming the "c" shape. Both front paws must be bended (begging position) while the hind legs and butt must form a straight line.

A little update!

Hi! This is Kero here.

Last Friday my owner brought me to the vet for my last injection and check up.
I got the checkup as I play too rough with my big brother shushu and have a little bald spot on my forehead now. The bald spot seems to stay bald and not healing so my owner got a little bit worried. Luckily, the vet assured my owner that is not serious and it will grow back.

Just when I thought I can finally join my big brother shushu on his daily walk, my owner told me that I have to get used to the leash first before she will bring me out. Furthermore, she don't think she can handle 2 dogs together outside and we may have our walk separately. So at this moment, big brother shushu still enjoy his daily morning walk with my owner without me. :(

p/s: I am taking over the blog today as my big brother, shushu injured his right side hind leg while playing in the porch yesterday. There was a little bit of bleeding and some swelling at the part between the toes, so my owner commanded him to take a rest first. Oh oh, maybe it is his turn to go and visit the vet then.....hmmmm

Time really flies, today is the last day of 2007.
It has been eventful this year, as my owner got me 2 new family members - Momo-hammy and also my little brother, Kero. I am no longer alone and with Kero, we have lots of fun together at home.

As such, I look forward to having more fun with Kero in the coming new year, though our owner has complained that we are now twice the trouble & mischief at home after getting Kero...hoho.

Kero and I would like to wish all our friends & their family a very Happy New Year and hope you all have a wonderful year ahead!!

Favourite toy

Kero has a favourite toy currently. My owner got him a teddy bear and he carry with him whenever he goes. He sleeps with it sometimes too.

Looking at kero's mr teddy, it brings back fond memory of my first and most favourite toy, mr turtle.

Like kero now, I also carry mr turtle with me wherever I goes. I sleep with it and when i only play fetch with my owner using mr turtle.

Sadly, by the time i reach 6 months old, my toy - Mr. turtle RIP as I got too rough with him and tore his legs apart (I even ate some of the stuffing as well). My owner try but couldn't find back the same turtle for me. After a few other soft toys, she decided not to get any more soft toy for me by then. Reason is because they don't last anymore due to my itchy mouth. Well, that's my most favourite toy that i have. What is your most favourite toy?

Recently, our owner noticed that one of Kero's teddy ears has been chewed away by him. I guess mr teddy won't last long as well and may suffered the same fate as my mr turtle. Though so, I hope kero's mr teddy brings as much joy and fun to him as mr turtle to me.

Our owner was sick last weekend so she didn't update our blog, but we received a very nice surprise from King King last weekend. Our owner found a little pink card in our mailbox and it is actually addressed to us - shushu & kero!

Miss owner went to the post office to collect the parcel. The post office clerk requested for miss owner IC (identification card) for verification purposes. When he cross check the name to the parcel and saw the name "Shushu & Kero" instead, he asked miss owner whether it is a company's name. Miss owner go and gleefully told him "no, that's my 2 furkids name". The clerk was very shocked, he thought he heard wrongly and repeated miss owner answer again just to make sure.....hehe.

She brought home a big parcel and I was very happy when miss owner show it to us. As usual, kero has his usual blur blur expression.

Miss owner, faster open the parcel please! We can wait to see what's inside. Kero even started chewing on the box.....

Wow, we got some christmas theme tennis ball, a soft toy, a treat and a nice christmas card from king king.

We love the very nice christmas card. Kero and I even fight for it, but being taller, I win...hehehe

Miss owner made us posed with the pressies. However, Kero couldn't sit still when miss owner take the pictures.

So in the end, miss owner gave up and take only my picture with the pressies. (shushu: I am a good boy!)

New Christmas Banner & Greetings from Momo

Hi! This is Momo here.

It has been a long time since I appear on the blog. Thank you for everyone's concern. I am alive and well, just a slightly troubled by my current head condition. It made me a little bit unbalance and i had to tilt my head one side to look at stuff. My master now called me "senget" (tilted) head momo.

Per the information from our vet, I must have hit my head while playing and injured a nerve at my neck. The nerve is connected to my right eye. As you can see from the above picture, my right eye is now a bit displaced - there is some slight whitish portion instead of a whole black coloured eye like my left one. Our vet said that most likely I will not recover from this and this has made my master a little bit sad.

I love running on my wheel a lot. However, I tend to hit my head on the wheel most of the time when running. So recently, my master has took off my running wheel to help me to heal better.That has made me a little bit grumpy, as I love my wheel very much and i need the exercise to keep myself beautiful and fit. After nagging my master a lot, she has relented and let me run around her room daily to replace the exercise. I love running in her room. I even found a little corner (near the window), where i love to hide when i play hide and seek with my master. She never fail to find me there when I disappear from her view. She called it my momo's corner.

Here is a recent video of me. However, you can see that the nosey Kero keep barging in and trying to distract my master from taking my video. Hmmmph, that naughty naughty kero....

Oh yah, we have a new lovely christmas banner - all of us are in it. Can you spot me in the banner? We would like to thank Abby the dogzilla's talented owner, for drawing a beautiful christmas banner for us. Our owner likes it very much!

Nothing much to update, so I thought of just sharing some videos of shushu & kero playing.

Both of them are very playful with each other. Kero has become more rough during play and they can go on for hours.

ISPCA food and fun fair event - 3/12/2007

Last weekend, we brought shushu to the ISPCA food and fun fair event. The event supposed to start at 9.30am but we arrive earlier, around 9am. There were already lots of people there. We can see a lot of doggies and the owners walking around.

The event started with a introduction of various breed of dogs by the MKA. The owners sportingly parade their dogs around the field while the crowds look on.

We spotted 2 borzoi there. (First time seeing them, very graceful and elegant creatures)

There was also a children colouring competition with the subject "me and my pet". Some artist were also kind enough to donate some paintings of dogs to raise fund for the charity. The dog paintings for sale were placed at the stairs in the picture below

During the event, ISCPA also brought some puppies for adoption drive and those who adopted the puppies will also get free training from MKA. We saw the puppies - they were fat and cute. Unfortunately, we didn't manage to take any photos. :(

After that, there were some demo by the MKA obedience team, starting from beginnner to intermediate level. Luckily shushu did ok in the demo (I brought some "char siu" (sweeten pork) just in case to tempt him into obedience!)

We didn't stay until the pet fashion show as shushu was fussing so we left early. Overall, it was a good event and it was fun to bring the furkids out for a family outing, especially it is being held in Ipoh. We hope there will be more pets event in Ipoh and we could participate again next year.

A little update on Momo

Here is a recent video of momo:

Her head is still slanted (senget) but otherwise she is still active. The vet said her slanted head might be permenant since she didn't recover in 7 days (the nerve dies in 7 days). However, we still haven't give up hope yet. Currently, we have remove her wheels temporarily to see whether it will help in her recovery or not. I am letting her run in my room daily to replace the wheel exercise. Besides that. we also got her some organic powder to boost her health up. Hopefully it helps!

As seen in the video, momo is a bit camera shy. As soon as i take out my camera, she will hide in her house......she does peek out from her house time to time and only comes out when i take away the camera.

Ok, here goes:

Kero:

1) Kero is fascinated with tails. (=_=") When he is free, he chases his own tail all the time. Besides that, he also likes to chase & bite my tail as well. When master picked him up from his mummy house, he was chasing and biting Grey's (a cat) tail and got swat by the annoyed cat.

2) Kero is a picky and slow eater. He will not eat when master give him his kibbles, but wait and see whether master will handfeed him first. Only when master leave him alone, he will start eating by picking up one piece of kibble and walk to the other side, sit down and chew. After finishing that piece of kibble, he will go back to his bowl to pick up another piece and repeat the whole process again. It take him ages just to finish his food!

3) Kero is an accomplished escape artist. He has freed himself from the travelling crate 2 times and playpen 3 times to date. Almost give my master heart attack everytime she finds out.

4) Kero loves to climb up master's bed and sleep on it. The first day master brought him home, he climb up to master's bed in the middle of the night and snuggle under the blanket. When master woke up next morning, she saw a tail peeking out from the blanket.

Me (shushu):

1) I am actually afraid of playpen, even though my head is already above it. When i was small, my master said i was very naughty (was i?) and always try to bite and push the playpen. One day, one of the playpen pieces fell while i was pushing it and come down with a loud noise and almost hit me. Eversince then, I never go near a playpen anymore. My master use this to her advantage - she uses playpen to barricate the living area from the rest of the house so I can't go in. Hhmmmph!

2) I love to bark. I can bark while holding a bone in my mouth and even while i am swimming.

3) I love all sort of vegetables - carrots, celery, cabbage, sawi, cauliflower, brocolli, cucumber! My master has yet to find anything I don't like to date. She said I can be a vegetarian soon and she is going to try bittergourd next! Hmm, i wonder how does it taste like.....

4) I love to steal master's daddy's smelly socks and hide miss sister's house slippers under my master bed when I was small. I don't do it now though, hmmmm maybe occasionally to daddy's smelly socks!

hmmm, why does kero look so sad?

Coz naughty shushu steal his little bone away..........

Master: shushu! you got your own nice big bone here ....
Shushu: No! kero's one is better....i only want kero's......hmmph (don't want to look at master's face)

Shushu just love stealing kero's little bone away, even when he has his own bone to chew. He would sneak near kero's playpen, use his paw and start fishing for kero's bone. Once he got it, he will fast fast run away with it. He has been punished for quite a few times for this but he still do it.

It is actually quite dangerous for him to chew the little bone as he might just swallow and choke on it. Hence, I only let kero plays with his bone at upstair now, where shushu is not around.

Last saturday, master brought kero to the vet for another checkup and the vet finally confirmed that kero's ringworm infection is healing and allowed kero and shushu to mix now.

First thing master did was to bathe kero, coz kero smell - yucks. After kero is nice and dry, master put kero in my crate and let us sniff at each other.

Hey, come out - that's mine!

Immediately, a round of barking and jumping around between both of us started. After some time, both of us quieten down. With nothing to do, we followed prince's example and started practising qi gong with each other.

Then, master finally let kero out. Kero started approaching.

Introducing Kero!!

My little brother has a name now, finally...whew.
He is now known as little Kero! Miss sister also likes to call him kero-chan.

huh? who is kero???

Well, master think and think of a name - took her ages and finally, she remembers an anime she watch very long long ago which is very cute, called Card Captor Sakura. Inside the anime, there was this creature called Keroberos (Cerberus), which is orange in colour, tiny and cute. In the anime, kero is noisy, likes to eat and play video game. Master said it is quite similar to our Kero, coz he is noisy and likes to eat and play as well. Here is a picture of what the anime Kero looks like:

Vain puppy!

momo is sick!

On thursday night my master discover something funny with momo, her head is tilted to the right side. My master was a little alarm but she thought maybe momo sprained her neck while sleeping and it will be alright soon.

Friday the whole day master and miss sister went to fetch the my little brother so no time to check on momo. However by Saturday, momo's head is still tilting and my master was very alarm now. She asked around and was informed that momo probably got some ear infection and may need vet consultation. She called my vet but he said he doesn't treat hamster. My master was disappointed and asked whether he knows any vet that does so in Ipoh. Unfortunately, he had no idea. She called another vet and that vet also said they don't treat hamster as well. My master was very sad. Because momo's head tilted, she was walking funny and sometimes lost her balance. Master miss momo standing on the home/salon antic, momo can't does it currently as she tends to lose her balance when standing.

Brought momo to shushu's vet yesterday. The vet did a body check on momo and noted momo has injured a nerve at her neck. He said it is quite serious and he is not sure whether momo will get better but gave some medication to help her condition. Poor momo!

The house just got a bit merrier

Hi! This is shushu again....

Yesterday my master and miss sister went away in master car in the morning and only come back late at night. Hmmph! Where did they go and they leave me home alone during deepavali!

Well, when they did come back, somebody follow them home.

Then my master explained to me that he is to be my new little brother. Wooohooo, I was very happy and gave him my famous welcome - "The shushu nonstop barking!" Well, unfortunately, the welcome was too energetic and he got a little bit scared.

Master didn't let me go near him as he is still recovering from some infection and she doesn't want it to spread to me also. Little brother is to be quarantine until he recovers first. I can only look at him from afar - i keep inviting him to play with me but then master scolded me again coz I was being very noisy......

Master said little brother need some rest as he was very tired travelling all the way from KL. master said he was very quiet the whole journey home and didn't puke or whine. He just lay on master lap and sleep like this.....

Oh ya, my little brother has no name yet. My master is still deciding coz she said she wanted to pick the name more carefully so he doesn't end up with a girly name like me (sweat! hey you are the one who give me that name...hmmmph) Miss sister suggested we named him Milo since we have Milk / susu (ahem - shushu) at home already. What do you all think? Give me your suggestions! My master will decide the name on Sunday!

HELPPPPP!! My evil master has put me in jail for being so naughty these few days!

I marked on a corner of grandma bed twice, on the new carpet once and at the curtain twice. It is not my fault! I got bored because my master was too busy to play with me these few days. And I didn't get to go out so often because it has been raining most of the time. (whine!)

I promise I will not do it again! Pleaaseeee let me out.

Shushu's master: Actually, i put him in his cage for a while as i need to clean the floor and replace the carpet that he has stained.....He was really being naughty these past week. See his naughty face!

Ms Octopus from ruffian

Recently shushu's fav toy, Mr Dino orange cuz has succumbed to much wear and tear. After a run of heavy assault from shushu, mr dino legs has begun to crack and his voice (the squeeker) is permenantly gone. Mr dino is actually shushu's remaining last squeeky toy. Without a proper squeeker, shushu can't greet his master home properly. (shushu's welcome home routine consists of grabbing his squeeker and run in circle while squeeking it madly when someone is home)

So, master decided to buy shushu another squeeky toy - ms octopus green.

After the previous incident with the carpet, we decided not to get another carpet again. However, recently shushu elbow turn worse - the fur around it all fell off and the skin is red and sometimes bruises appear. Without the carpet to support his elbow, shushu will hurt his elbow if he do siew chu pose on the floor - and he loves doing the siew chu pose.

After much consideration, we decided to give the carpet another try. So last weekend, sis and I went to JJ and bought a cheap silk carpet for shushu.

Turtle buns from Nine Emperors Festival

Last Friday was the last day of the Nine Emperors Festival. This festival is celebrated for full 9 days and it usually rains throughout this period of time. Hence, shushu was getting very restless for the past few days as it keep raining and he couldn't go for his daily walk.

To celebrate the festival, the devoties will take vegetarians meals for full 9 days. As such, during this period of time, you can get very nice selection of vegetarian food. Besides this, you can also get a special type of steam buns, in the shape of turtle and colour in pink/red as well. They are available for purchase in pairs. These buns are made as a part of the offerings to the gods during the festival.

There are lots of ways to eat them - you can just steam them, or you can fry them with butter or made french toast out of them. Being the lazy person I am, I just use the simple way of steaming them. I have given some to shushu as a treat. Shushu is crazy about buns, all type....

Sorry for the lack of updates!

On 13 October 2007 (Saturday) around 4.30am, brother come back with a special guest - he is bringing one of Foo's syrian hamster home. She is sable banded, so she has a nice grey and white spot body. My sister named her Momo. Momo is a very active and curious hammy. She is very attached to her wheels but loves to peek everytime she hears some sound. Momo is a very cool hamster too. Shushu barked at her but she just carry on running on her wheel.

Shushu owner here.

Just come back from work today and discover shushu had tore open the 15kg Innova dog food that I just bought last saturday and ate plenty of it (now left 2/3 of the bag only)

He actually looked very proud of himself when we come home and had even show us the mess and play with it happily in front of us. I was really angry with him and gave him a major scolding after cleaning up the mess.

Birthday celebration

We didn't plan anything much for shushu for his 1 year old birthday celebration. Originally, I decided just to cook him a nice meal in the morning but unfortunately, the kitchen cooker battery died on the same time.......

So, for his birthday breakfast - he got canned food instead.
I opened a can of Solid gold lamb, barley and carrot meal that look like this:

Then added half of his ussual kibbles and mix them up.

Verdict:
Unfortunately, he didn't like the can food. He ate it even slower than just only the usual kibbles. So, I decided to make him a nicer meal in the evening.....

For his evening meal, he got chicken, potato and carrot boiled with a little bit of garlic.

Finally allowed him to eat.

But that's not all yet. We decided to cook him a dessert - a little steam cake (since my house no oven) for his birthday. I don't have any recipe and with the limited ingredient in the house, I just try making something similar to a pancake. I used 1 egg, 1/2 cup of milk, 1/2 cup of flour, shredded carrot and apples and a spoonful of honey and combined them together.

He also got a soft bone for his chewing pleasure after the meal. I guess shushu birthday celebration was more like a food banquet for him that day. Hope he liked it!

KKB outing and Samseng Shu

Last Saturday, we brought shushu to Kuala Kubu Bharu (KKB) for a swim. The outing was organised by Lowyat Net's Pet Wonderland forummers. We started the journey from Ipoh at 7am and reach Batu Caves about 9.40am. Shushu was very excited throughout the journey.

How come so long one? Are you all sure you are going on a correct direction? (shushu kepo-ing)

hmmmm, I better double check and make sure my master brings all my gear!

When we reach Batu Caves, the group has already left! ooops.....Luckily Celine's mom and dad turn back and guide us the way so we were the last to reach the picnic spot.

The first person we saw were Prince and Prince's pappy! Prince is very handsome but looks a bit thin lor! Prince pappy didn't give enough for Prince to eat kah? jk (><) Prince is very "guai"(obedient) and friendly to everyone.

This is the first time shushu went swimming. He just followed the other doggies and jump into the river! After a little while, he started swimming happily in the river. We were glad to see him taking to the water so easily.

However, shushu was very naughty! After swimming a while, he started barking at the nearby dogs while swimming near them. He even chased the other doggies and barked at them while swimming! I think he really annoyed quite a number of doggies there. We really have a tough time keeping him in control! I was quite angry at him. He is so naughty he should changed his name to Samseng Shu next time!

Saw this picture in Prince's blog, don't know if this is shushu or not!

After struggling with him for quite some time and realised that he would not stop his annoying barking, we decided to call it a day and when home at about 1 something pm. The sky has turn gloomy on our way back and it started to rain heavily.

Samseng Shu was quite tired (after all the swimming and barking nonstop) so he dozed off during the journey home. He didn't even uttered a sound the whole journey back, even when I was away in a nearby petrol station to change my wet clothings.

I really hope if we do bring him to other outing next time, his samseng-ness don't appear again, or else.....no more outing for him until he learns some manners! I also want to say it is nice meeting so many people and furkids at the outing and very sorry we could not chat much.

Stop the dog catching competition

Recently, Majlis Perbandaran Selayang organised a dog catching competition with lucrative rewards to curb the strays population in the area. An article on the competition is available in Malay Mail as follows:

Firstly, making a dog catching a "public and fun" competition is cruel. Do we want to educate our young ones that dog catching activities is a rewarding and fun activities?

The offering of lucrative rewards will only encourage greedy people who will resort to all sort of methods just to fulfill the quota (minimun catch of 150 dogs / half year). This might increase the dognapping and break-in cases, not just in Selayang area but other nearby areas as well when people get desperate.

Besides that, asking general public who are untrained / inexperience in catching strays will only end up endangering both the man as well as the animal. Cornered animals can be dangerous. Fustrated catchers may also just harm and abuse the animals. (terms and condition does state for the dog to be alive, but dogs will brokens legs and bleeding injuries is also consider alive, doesn't it?)

MPS also stated in the terms and condition that they will not be responsible for any damage cause to public and property due to the competition.

New Bag, Big bone and moody Sunday

Hi. Shushu here again.

Last monday, my master bought me a bag for me to carry my treats when I go out with master.
I am so happy with the bag, I even parade nicely for my master to take some pitures of it.

Am I a happy dog with the bag?? :)I can't wait to take my bag out but master has kept it away now and said I can only used it after my birthday since it is part of my birthday present.

Friday was our country 50th independence day and brother come back from KL for the weekend. Master, sister and brother went with cousin and visit grandma in Kuala Kangsar during merdeka. They left me alone in the house. :(

However, before master left, she gave me a big bone. But cousin was very naughty. He took the bone away and ask me to lay down on the floor first.

He then put the bone on my nose.

And make me balance the bone

Finally I got the bone. I am so happy with it

From shushu's master: shushu chew the bone for 2 days and finished half of it. I think he swallowed some of the rawhide before they become soft and injured his throat. The half bone has been confiscated from him since.

Today is suppose to be my training day. However, it has been raining since yesterday night and it rain again heavily this morning. So the training class is cancelled. I am very bored at home. My throat still hurt and I can't eat my kibbles. Master gave me some chicken soup instead.

Shushu first outing!!!!

Today shushu did not have training class because the MKA trainers were invited to Pantai Remis to present a dog obedience demo there. All the doggies owners at the training were invited to tag along with their dogs so that various type of doggies can be introduced to the folks at Pantai Remis during the demo.

I decided to bring shushu to the event and asked my cousin to tag along for the trip. Everyone met at the Petronas station at Pengkalan at 8.30 am and began our journey to Pantai Remis. It was drizzing early in the morning and there are about 10 cars/MPVs going for the journey.

We reached Pantai at about 10.30am. The rain stop and it was a bright and sunny day at Pantai. The event was held at the community hall at Pantai. When we reached there, we were quite surprised to see so many people coming for the event. The folks at Pantai were very kind to reserve some parking place beside the hall, to facilitate the owners and doggies.

The event kicked off with an introduction of various breeds of dogs. It started with the parade of the smallest doggies, the chihuahuas and ended with the biggest one, the mastiff. After Bobo the labrador retriever turn, the GR's was next and Gordon, Tessa and Shushu walk together twice around the venue.

After the introduction is over, a pet fashion show is held before the basic obedience class demo is presented. Shushu took part in this with Tessa, Boston, Bobby, Rina(GSD) and CianLoong(mix). Shushu did ok except at the sit and leave your dog command. He run school halfway......

After the basic class demo, the advance class demo kicked in. Some of the participants are Gordon, Bobo (lab), Bobo (silky) and Jason (chihuahua).

The last event was high level obedience and protection demo done by Dr Loo and his GSD. They performed really well and were given generous applause by the audience. The event ended at about 12.30 noon and all of us were treated to a nice lunch before we depart back to Ipoh.

Shushu and the celery

Once upon a time, not so long ago, there live a young doggy named shushu, who loves to eat vegetables. One of his favourite veggie is celery. He just loves the feeling of chewing on a juicy and crunchy celery, simply irresistable!!

One day, he happened to meet with a very big juicy celery.

Shushu's eyes just light up with happiness upon seeing the beautiful celery. Wait, things was not as simple as it seems, for the celery was not that easily attainable! It was actually being hold captive by....(tahdah!) a evil master. Shushu beg and beg for the celery but no avail. The evil master demanded for shushu to bow down before him. But that's not all. Shushu was made to balance the celery on his nose while laying down. Poor shushu!

(Doesn't he look miserable?). However, when the evil master was distracted, shushu took the opportunity and made a daring escape and even rescue the beautiful celery........wow!!

That's not the end yet. Shushu went on and participate in a eating competition and won the fastest celery chewer ever. He broke the record by finishing in less than 2 minutes! Here is an actual footage of the eating competition:

11 months today!!

Yay, shushu is 11 months old today. :) Need to start planning for a birthday party soon!
Just brought him to a groomer for basic grooming. Finally the vet said can let him take bath, after more than a month of "dry season". Phew, the smell...yucks! Luckily he is an indoor dog.

After the grooming, he smell so nice...the fur is fluffy once more, not sticky and dull. Gave him a big hug and cuddle him lots today. Feel really nice!.

I was very sick for the past few weeks and didn't have much appetite, so master decided to cook for me most of the time.

Feeling hungry, I decided to go and hunt for my food.

First stop - living room...sniff sniff any food?

Up to mischieve again...............

Last Sunday, Shushu did a very horrible thing.

Big sis woke up in the morning and discover shushu has pulled, chewed and swallowed a big chunk of the living room carpet!!

Oh, my gosh.... we found a pile of vomit at his mattress, which contain some remains of the carpet. After scolding him, we locked him inside his crate for about 1/2 hour as part of the punishment.

Big sis was very angry because she just bought the carpet less than 2 months ago and shushu never bite the carpet before. We even chose something that is very short and durable so he cannot pull the thread out. The carpet was bought for him as we noted he has sores at the elbow of the front paws due to too much contact with the hard floor. Besides this, we want to reduce the probability of him slipping on the tiles floor by covering it with carpet. Well, I guess no more carpet for him after this fiasco.

By afternoon after his lunch, I noticed shushu drank a lot of water. After he finished his bowl of water, he even went to the porch where there is a big pail of water and drank those up too. Immediately after that, he tried to poo, but the poo come out very little and watery. He poo all over the porch. While I was cleaning the porch, he vomited all over the living room and on his favourite cushion.........

It was a horrible mess! There is big chunks of thick threads (shape like maggi mee) all over the place together with his lunch content. I spent 2 hours cleaning up the mess. I put him back in the crate but did not have the heart to scold him. He looked quite unwell and miserable - all the anger in the morning evaporated. I called his vet and he just ask me not to let him drank any more water for a while.

Much later in the evening after he look kind of stable, I give him some mashed hard boiled egg as he was very hungry. After a while, he went and look for water again....... Sis just filled up the pail at the porch for her garden and shushu drank almost all of them. He started to poo again....but the poo was stuck as there was a thick thread of carpet in it. He panicked and dragged all over the porch. The whole porch, most of the shoes and his butt and hind legs has poo all over them. (sorry for the gory details) Luckily we managed to close the living room door in time or else.........

I have to calm him down and pull the thread out carefully(really long one) with the poo. Before I managed to do anything else, he vomited clear water and pieces of egg at the porch. Really shocking and messy again......

I clean him up with baby wipes (since he can't be bathe yet) first, crate him again and then clean up the porch and wash the shoes. Sunday was really a very tiring and double cleaning day for me....By the time I am done, it was night time already.

Shushu spend the remaining day fasting and confined. Big sis also feel sorry for him. He keep swallowing and sometimes try to cough. Fearing that there is still blockage in him, I took him to the vet on Monday for checkup. The vet said his throat is slightly injured when he swallowed the carpet threads and give him some medication to relieve the discomfort. The vet also said to give him soft food for about 3 days and let him drink a spoonful of honey or "pei pah kou" to lubricate his throat.

The good news of this is that shushu is really on his way to recovery from his pneumonia as he is begining to turn back into a devil.

Shushu finished his series of injections on Saturday evening.
The vet said to continue giving shushu antibiotics pills and monitor his progress closely.

On Monday evening, as some of the antibiotics had finished, I took shushu back for another checkup. I was hoping for a good news. However, the vet did some checks on shushu and noticed he is still dripping greenish mucus at his nose. This indicate that the infection is still there. Hence, shushu got another 5 days of medication with one added antibiotic. His next appointment with the vet is this coming Saturday.

The vet said that pneumonia is a serious disease and the recovery will take quite some time.

Healthwise, shushu is looking more alert than the past week. However, he still get tired easily (after 10 minutes) and will lay down and rest. He has constant runny nose and drips mucus all over the floor so i wipe the floor constantly. He still breathe noisily, especially while sleeping.

He still cannot / wouldn't eat his kibbles, treats or any can food at the moment. To help him regain his energy, I cook chicken meat and mince vegetables for him everyday. He can only eat them at small portions so I feed him 4 times daily now. I also give him some goat milk to boost up his immune system.

Update on 3/8/07:

Just after I post for shushu hopeful recovery, Shushu had another relapse again on Thurday morning (2/8). He has high fever, 40.9'C and doesn't eat anything anymore.

His vet office was closed on every thursday but fortunately, i managed to contact his vet and he agreed to open the clinic in the evening to have a look at him. He did some test on shushu mucus and feaces to check for any clue but unfortunately, nothing can be found.
Shushu is now on another antibiotics and is scheduled for an x-ray and a culture test today. If they cannot get anything, most probably a blood test will be scheduled later.

I have decided not to post anymore on this blog at the moment. This blog will be put on hiatus temporary until shushu recovers, which I hope again is very much sooner.

Pneumonia - 2nd update

On Monday, shushu was admitted into the clinic and placed under IV fluids.
On Tuesday evening, after 3 bottles of IV, the fever went down and shushu was discharged. The drop in the fever indicated that the antibiotic is working, which is a good sign.

However, shushu has a relapse as the fever returned with a vengence by Wednesday evening. He was rushed to the clinic again and was given an injection immediately to reduce the fever. The vet said the bacteria inflection was very strong as it has already developed an immunity to the current antibiotic prescribed. Shushu was given another antibiotic prescription. We also need to send him twice daily to the clinic for injections besides all the medication.

If the fever still persist, the vet will have to take the culture test and send it to a lab for analysis.

Currently, Shushu is still resting at home. His fever has lowered but not gone. He still has lots of mucus in the nose and breathes nosily. The good news is he has started eating again but with low appetite.

I still do not know how is shushu faring now? Will the fever return? I have brought a termometer and monitor his condition very closely. I will also bring him to the vet again later during lunch and evening for his injection. I hope I can get some good news from the vet.

Pneumonia - update

Shushu vomited again on sunday midnight and refused to eat anything today. I bought all sort of can foods to tempt him but he just refused all of them.

By lunch time, he still refused to eat anything and I have no choice but to admit him to the clinic to be placed under IV drips (under the vet advice). I brought shushu to the clinic and he was very quiet there, which is so unlike him at all. The vet was quite busy due to lunch time and shushu just lay quietly at my feet while waiting for his turn. When his turn come, I leave him under the vet care and return to work.

I visited him again after work to check on his condition. The good news is that his fever is reducing, which the vet says it is a good sign that the antibiotic is working. However, the vet said that he is still dripping a lot of saliva, which is not so favourable. So far, no more vomitting at the moment.

I find Shushu looking a bit more alive, which he was not for the past 2 days. Previously, he was mostly is a daze due to his high fever and lack of food intake, and would constantly just paused and stared into space. Today, though he is still very tired, I can see that his eyes is much more clearer and he smiled at us. When we arrive at the clinic, he did not make any noise when he saw us, but just wagged his tail furiously. I patted him and told him to be strong and to get well soon, and that I will be seeing him again tomorrow. We just stayed there for 10 minutes talking to him. However, when we leave, we could hear him barking for us, asking for us to stay with him.

Sigh! I miss him terribly. I pray that he will be well and will stay with us for a long time.

Down with pneumonia

I am very sad to say that shushu is very sick again, this time down with pneumonia.

I took him to the vet on saturday morning when I noticed that his appetite is diminishing and his breathing is real loud. I was really shocked when the vet told me his right lung has infection and it look serious. Shushu vomitted when we come back, vomitted another time in the evening and again at night, each time after he took his medicine. He refused any intake of food after he vomitted so many times.

By Sunday morning - shushu's condition worsened. He is very weak as he has no intake of food nor medicine. I decided to take him to another vet for a 2nd diagnosis. There, the vet said that both lungs are infected. As his fever is still there, Shushu was given 3 injections immediately. The vet also said no bathing and playing/exercise with shushu as it will worsen the condition. The vet also advised us to get a termometer at home to check shushu's temperature constantly to gauge whether the fever is diminishing. If the temperature drop, the medicine is effective. However, if after 3 days and the conditions still persist, the vet will have to take a culture test to decide the next course of action.

At this moment, shushu is sleeping in the living room. I am very tired now as I have been taking care of shushu over the weekend, cleaning the vomit and making sure he is comfortable. I just hope I am not losing shushu this round.

Hi. Shushu's master here.
I am currently having a headache buying shushu's toys, coz he destroys them all the time! I am very tempted not to get him anymore toys but that will mean he has nothing to occupy his afternoon while I am away to work. Moreover, when he is bored and has nothing to bite, my living room's furniture will have to suffer..... I have half eaten coffee table, tv cabinet as well as rocking chair. The antibite spray doesn't help at all - he doesn't mind bitter stuff (=_="). I bet he will eat the bittergourd if I give him one. Discipline doesn't help as he doesn't do it when we are around so we can never catch him red handed. Anyway, back to toys, here is a list of those I have tried:

Soft toys
Shushu's first toy and his most favourite. They were suitable until he reaches 5 months. Then, the toys started to lose their body parts - eyes, ears, legs, etc.
He chew a hole in every one of them, then pull the cotton out and swallowed them! It was quite dangerous and luckily he poo out the cotton. The worst is the cotton (with poo) always stuck to his butt fur. He will freak out when he realised this and cause a mess around the house by running around and rubbing his butt all over the place, which will end up with me mopping the floor for an hour everytime this happened.
Soft toys now can only last about 10 minutes to maximum 1/2 hour.

Rope toys
Good for exercising the teeth - nice to sink the teeth into yet soft enough not to cause any hurt to the baby teeth. Shushu also love this very much! Again, when he reaches 5 months, he starting chewing off the fringe at both and and swallow those threads...... so, most of the time, his ropes has stub at both end instead of fringe. about one month ago, he finally found a way to bite through the middle of the rope and then untangle them into pools of threads. That's the day all his rope toys got destroyed.
Any new toys with ropes gets chew off within an hour.

Squeeky toys (plastic)
Shushu loves squeeky stuff. I guess he likes interactive ones. When we are around, he will purposely carry one and squeek it nonstop just to annoy us so we will play with him. Problem will plastic squeeky toys is they are made of soft plastic and hence can't last. Shushu will tear them apart and swallow the plastic. This is so dangerous and they can get stuck in his intestine and cause blockage.
Squeeky plastic toys can last one day maximum.

Tennis ball
shushu loves the bouncy and elastic tennis ball but somehow managed to destroy them, via the "kopek" / peeling an orange skin style. And it seems that his orange peeling skill is getting better, the time has shorten between the first tennis ball (2 days) to 2nd tennis ball (2 hours).

Nylon bones
These are quite durable and last for sometime, depending on the material. The soft type doesn't last as long as the hard/tough type, but shushu like it more. Had to be quite careful on the hard type as one of these bones cause shushu teeth to bleed after chewing it.

Rubber toys like kongs, cuz, etc
Last the longest, but shushu doesn't like it that much, except for cuz coz got squeeky inside. He only likes it when we put some food inside (kong). After he managed to extract the food, the toy will be abandoned.

MKA dog show

Hi. This is shushu.

Last Sunday, I had a break from training (Yay, no need to sit under the hot sun!) as the trainers went for a MKA training demo at South City Plaza. The bad news was Master and Brother went together with the trainers as well and left me alone at home (well, with sis) ......

There was a talk on training by a trainer from Singapore. Unfortunately, the dog crazy master and brother was too distracted by the dog show held at the ground floor and got separated from the group. They only managed to find the MKA office after almost an hour and by the time they got there, the training had just ended.

However, they got to visit the MKA training area and look at the agility equipment there. They also got to watch the MKA Obedient team do a practise demo. Master said that the KL doggies was very fortunate to have such a nice training place - with roof, nice big fans to cool the doggies, interesting agility equipment and a fence to keep the doggy safe. Compared with the hot and sunny open field in Ipoh, it was heaven. Master hope that next time we may get a better training ground so that I can concentrate on her command instead of moving here and there trying to shade myself now.

Bubble fun

One week ago, my sister bought a bottle of soap bubbles to play with shushu. Shushu loves chasing moving stuff and the bubbles are a fun way for him to play without swallowing anything.

Well, we started at the living room and shushu had a ball chasing after them.

In fact, he was a bit overwhelmed by the numbers of bubble floating around.

We played for a while, not too long as shushu may get too tired. However, playing in the living room was not a good idea......the floor was a bit wet and quite sticky. I end up mopping the floor after the session.

2 days later, we play another round of bubbles, but this time is at the car porch. Here are the pictures:

Hi! This is shushu's owner. I just want to pen in something I feel very happy about. Last Sunday, the trainer praised shushu that he has improved in his training. Shushu has succesfully master his "sit & stay" command. Yay!! \(^_^)/

Usually, he will try to follow me or run to the shade once i let go of his leash and walk away. But last Sunday, he sat and stayed really still while i walk a circle before returning back to him.

I must have bragged to so many people already. To other people, it is probably a very small matter but I am very happy about this, as usually i always get negative comments from trainers - not on shushu (don't worry), but more on the handler(owner - me). It seems like I spoilt shushu too much, not being firm with him, me being too "lembik" and so on.......

Honestly speaking, after hearing those, I am kind of worry that I wouldn't be able to handle shushu by myself and he may end up rowdy and undiscipline. It is also quite sad as shushu did have a very good potential (very smart). But last sunday it really make my day! I am a very proud "parent". So, before I forget, i better record this in. Kekeke, maybe this is the only time I will hear a praise from the trainer! Now, to move to the next command, "down & stay"

shushu's guide: Playing with a bone

Hi. This is shushu. Since I am very bored - my master fell sick yesterday and did not play with me, I will just write a short guide on how to play with your bone.

Firstly, to chew the bone with optimal pleasure, you must find a nice spot to lay down. For example,

On the master lap

or on a comfy cushion

if the above option is not available, a nice cool and clean floor will also do.

Then, you can first proceed to begin sniffing at the bone.

Start biting at the fattest corner.

Chew vigorously, so that bits and pieces of the bone can fall off.

or use it as a toothpick to keep your teeth nice and clean.

If you are bored with the chewing, you can also carry it around when doing your 100 laps around the sofa.

Healthy shushu at 8 months

Last Friday I brought shushu to the vet there again for a checkup and also because he developed some rashes at the stomach and hind legs area.

Shushu is very happy to be at the vet there. I dunno why, but before I stop the car he already got quite excited and wanted to get down from the car. Even the vet asked me whether shushu is this happy when he reach her clinic, coz she said it was so suprising to see a dog this happy at the vet! I think he miss the vet and her 2 very nice assistants very much and is very happy to see them again. He look very at home there (trying to run here and there) and even bark at the rest of the doggies who are waiting for treatment =_=.

Vet said he look so much healthier than the last visit (yay!). Shushu even put on quite a lot of weight, from about 20kg(sick) to 25kg. Vet said that is quite enough as she didn't want shushu to gain too much weight and stress his hips. Well, I guess I will put shushu back on normal ration of his dog food and no more snacks for him. The vet gave shushu some edible cream to apply at his rashes. Vet said he probably got some bateria infection due to allergy to weeds that brushed at his stomach area(when out at the field) or from laying on the floor too much (siew chu - roast pig position). The stomach area was quite bare (without much fur) as they were trimmed off for the ultrasound last time. I guess I got to clean the floor more frequently (mop 2 days once) and with more gentle cleaning solution from now on. His hips are ok too.

Before we leave the vet clinic, shushu got a chewing treat from one of the assistant and the other assistant took him out for a short walk at the field opposite the clinic. I guess now you know why shushu loves the assistant so much!!

Almost lost

This happened last month and for some reason or others, I always postpone blogging it. Probably I like to record happy and joyous moment rather than something sombering. However, I think it is important and I do want to keep a record of it, so I am going to do a simple date type of entry.

20th April 2007 (Friday)
- morning: discovered shushu's vomit all over the floor (about 4 spots). Vomited once again - sighted by me before i went to work. Shushu didn't have any appetite to eat (did not touch his food at all). Clean up the mess, put shushu inside his cage for him to rest and place a kibble inside (to check whether his appetite returning later).
- call home during lunch time and ask about shushu's condition. Seems no more vomit and his appetite returning (he ate the piece of kibble).
- evening: reached home, feed shushu his kibble. He did not vomit anymore, looks active and played with him.
- night (about 11.30pm) let him out at the car porch for pee and poo before settling down for the night. Shushu come back after 5 minutes, brother noted shushu started dripping yellow liquid on the floor from the nose. Yellow become red, and it started flowing at an alarming rate. The blood just won't stop and the floor was covered in blood as well as the crate. Shushu become hyper. Panicked!!! Call his regular vet HP but no answer. In desperation, called my good friend and asked her whether she has any vet numbers. Got one and give her a call. The vet picked up the call(was almost in tears). Was advised to pack ice water on a cloth and wrap around his nose and to give the vet a call if the bleeding did not stop after 20 minutes. It didn't stop. Call back the vet and was told to get shushu to her clinic ASAP. She was kind enough to open it again for shushu. Shushu received 2 injection to stop the bleeding, some pills for the bleeding and a sleeping pill to calm him down. Vet said probably he accidentally injured his nose (banged on it) hence the bleeding. No suspicion on others as the bleeding is only on one side of the nose. However, found out shushu is a "bleeder", means he has Vit K deficiency hence has difficulty forming blood clot to stop his own bleeding. Vet advised for shushu to be put under observation for the night but shushu refused to comply. So fetch him back home. Stayed with him in the living room for the night but shushu couldn't sleep. Whining whole night because of the pain.

21st April 2007 (Saturday)
- Morning: shushu slept a little, begin to look a bit tired and lifeless. feed him some kibbles.
- Evening: shushu started vomiting again (3 times). Refused to eat. Can still drink water. Took him to see the vet again. got some pills for the vomiting and since he is still very active (played with the vet) we took him home.

22nd April 2007 (Sunday)
- Afternoon: Shushu continue vomiting, tempt him to eat with watery chicken porridge but he vomit after eating it. Now shushu even refused to drink water. Rushed him to the vet. Vet observed shushu condition is much more weakened, he has become very meek and passive. Suspect shushu is poisoned. Vet gave him an injection for general poison. Shushu is then placed under IV drips and has to stay in the clinic for the night. shushu is really weakened as he did not object anymore to the injection nor being put inside a crate. Vet weighted him and notice he drop about 3kg.

23rd April 2007 (Monday)
- Afternoon: visited shushu at lunch time, noticed he look very sad and depressed, totally unlike himself. Hardly recognise me even when I am next to him. Vet assistant gave him some water and he immediately puke after drinking it. Vet then suspect there is a foreign object in him hence the blockage (unable to keep the food and water in). She did an ultrasound on this belly but couldn't find anything significant enough. The vet then asked me whether I want to do a blood test on him and I agreed. The vet took 3 tube of bloods from him and send to the lab. She told me she will get the result by the evening.
- Evening: Blood test out and nothing out of ordinary except for blood cells count. low white blood, red blood as well as platelet count. Vet said a few possibility - he was under drug to suppress his blood production or he has bone marrow suppression (his marrow is not good enough to generate enough blood cell). Vet ruled out drug as he is not under any medication except the gluosamine supplement and vit C. Vet proposed a X-ray examination tomorrow morning at another clinic (not available in her facilities) for further checks.

24th April 2007 (Tuesday)
- Morning: Went early in the morning with brother to look at shushu and to take him for X-ray and got a good news from vet. She said she faxed the blood test yesterday night to a lecturer in UPM and consulted him on the case and there is a possibility of blood parasite. Hence, she did a blood second test on shushu on it and found out that shushu did have sparse blood parasite. Gave shushu 2 more injections on the blood parasite, yesterday night and this morning. Suspect that the blood parasite are transmitted by ticks, (ticks fever). Shushu did look more active today and we stayed with him until lunch time. Vet asistant gave him some liquid food and he started eating a little after some coaxing. No vomit so far. Vet said shushu condition look much more better and if nothing goes wrong he will be able to leave by tomorrow. Shushu's IV drips is then taken off.
- Evening: went to vet again to visit shushu. He looks way better, and started barking at other dogs too =_=. Vet assistant feed him boiled chicken and he ate it all. When I wanted to go back home, he keep barking at me nonstop so the vet took a pity on him and allowed him to go home that day instead of tomorrow. She told me no excitement for him for 2 weeks - ie. no training, etc. Took shushu home and camped at the living room with him at night.

25th April 2007 - 27th April 2007
Kept shushu at home. Feed him boiled chicken and some Innova Evo can food - all in small portion and constantly to avoid his stomach upset. No evening walks as scared he might get some virus from outside since his immune system is very low. Eventhough so, he manage to catch a bad cough on friday, expecially at night.

28th April 2007 (Saturday)
Took him to the vet again for check up. Vet said his lungs is clear, but has a lot of phelgm at the throat. She gave him some antibiotic and medicine for his cough. Other that day, vet pronounced him fit and healthy. I also bought him a flea collar to further protect him from anymore ticks attack. He is already under frontline but just to be safe.

It was very lucky that Shushu managed to survive the incident. Medical bills was sky high (blood test, drips, injections, ultrasound) but nothing can be compared with the fact that he is still alive today. It just happened one day without warning or sign. Even though it happened so fast, just within one week - but lots of care, patience and time (sleepless night) was spent to get shushu back to his feet again. Shushu has regain his appetite but his immune system is still low so we have to be vigilant. This incident taught me to appreciate more on life and never to take things for granted.

Last sunday, I finally took him to his training after his 2 weeks curfew, well not much training but more for socialisation. Shushu has conveniently "forgotten" all his training and has to start all over again - probably from much spoilling from me. There I got the news from another GR owner that one of the training GR, who was about 2.5 years old has succumbed to a virus attack recently. The GR was vomited blood and there was nothing the vet can do to save it. I felt the lady owner's grief and was thankful mine survived.

Boils on legs

Not yet recovering from one health problem, the second problem pop up last saturday.
However, this is mainly the OWNER'S FAULT.

The owner decided to bring shushu to grooming last saturday. There was quite a bit of knots on shushu's stomach and it has caused shushu quite an itch. His ears also need some cleaning. Since he broke part of the grooming equipment on his last visit to his usual groomer, the owner decided to try another groomer nearby and brought shushu to it around 1pm. The new place was one of the shoplots and the area was quite populated (especially near lunch hour) and being a large dog (puppy), shushu might scared some of them if we were walking at the pavement. So, the owner foolishly let shushu walk on the tar road on a hot weather thinking that for such short distance (3 shophouses from where the owner park her car), there is no harm. However, the road scorched his paws and cause some boils. Poor shushu was in pain but did't cried out. After back from groomer, shushu was unsually quiet and slept the whole afternoon thru. He keep licking his paws.

On sunday morning, shushu was in pain and was limping when he is walking. The owner was in panic and didn't realise what is the problem. After the visit to the vet only we realise the cause. The vet said it will take more than one week to recover and that not to let shushu walk a lot cause it will be painful for him. Of course, the owner get reprimand by the vet for letting shushu walk under the hot sun.

The owner would like to said "very SORRY" to shushu for causing him so much uncomfortable condition. Shu will miss his training and all his daily walk until he recovers.

And for others doggy owner out there, please don't your beloved doggy walk on the tar road under the hot sun. This owner learn it the hard way and her dog has to suffer!

Hips dysplasia (HD)

We noted one of shushu's hind leg is quite weak so last tuesday, I brought him to the vet for a checkup.

Vet says that shushu may have a posibility of HD as one of the hind leg is injured (he twisted it). He prescribed some supplement for shushu to take, which is glucosamine to help faster healing. However, the medication will need to be taken constantly for some time - at least 2 months for it to take effect. Vet also said not to let shushu jump alot, as it will put more pressure on his joints. This is quite hard to do considering he likes to jump on people as a form of greeting and when he is happy. We know that this is one of the bad behaviour and will do our best to control him.

I really hope he can get well soon.

What is HD actually? HD mainly affects large breed dogs such as GSD, Labrador, Golden, Rottweiler, Great Dane and St. Bernard. It affects the joints of the legs and can be inhereted from its parents.

ice ice baby!!

Last Saturday, my brother decided to give shu a treat and made a big chunk of ice for shu to play at the porch. Shu was escastic. He usually get a few ice cubes from the freezer sometimes to cool him down and for him to chew...but, when he saw the big chunk of ice, he did not know what to do with it. He can't bite it like the usual ice cube (this one too big)

Arrghhh...why can't i lift it up like usual.....

So, he started licking on it

Shu spend almost 5 minutes just licking on the ice.

However, the fun started when the ice began to melt at the bottom and become wet and slippery. Then it become a chasing and barking game for shu. at one point of time, he even "skate" with the ice, aka by putting a paw on it and move around.

Finally, the ice break into half after much assault from shu and he happily settle down for a cooling chewing time.

Overall, it was an enjoyable afternoon for shu and a great way for him to keep cool at the same time. I guess we found a nice play stuff for him.

The owner has been very busy with work and moving house hence March just passed by without any posting. Feeling guilty today, the owner decided to post something before the month ended, but what to post?

It is not that the month has been uneventful, but the owner is kind of blur right now (too much work!) - well, shushu did steal 3 pieces of gardenia bread that made grandma very upset coz it is her breakfast for that day. Shushu also torn one of the table clothes and steal an onion from the kitchen. (Btw, onion is very poisonous to dog and luckily it didn't cause shushu much harm this time). Grandma was really fuming. Being so naughty, shushu is now banned from the dinning hall and kitchen. Though so, shushu still likes to disturb grandma in the living room.......

Grandma complains a lot, but still a softie when it comes to shushu (grandma give shushu more treats than the owner.....hehe)

Shu (Shu Shu) name origin

The first time I brought Shu (or most of the time called shushu) to his puppy class 2 weeks ago, the trainer asked me what gender and name is my puppy. I replied him that it is a male and called shushu. He was so astonished and laughed out loud - he said " how can - a male GR puppy be called shushu" (=_=)"
I was quite pissed at that point of time. I replied that I like the name though it sound very "girly" and "unsuitable".

Since I am quite free today, let me explained a little bit on the origin of the name Shu Shu .......

Wonder how Shu Shu name is derived from?

Well, I am a fan of anime series and while watching an episode of One Piece, there was a doggy character named "shushu" in it. Shushu was a male doggy owned by a pet store owner, who has since passed away. However, Shushu remained loyally at the pet store guarding it and keeping it safe for it deceased owner. In the anime, the villain - a pet tamer and his lion was looking for food and come across the pet store. Though intimidated by the sheer size and the ferociousness of the lion, Shushu didn't back off but hold on his ground (in promise of his owner) and fought bravely with lion in order to protect its pet shop. I was so touched by the bravery and loyalty shown by Shushu, I decided that my future doggy will be named as shushu in hope that it will be as brave and loyal as the anime Shu shu - hehe!

Puppy Class

Last Sunday I registered Shu for obedience class and brought him to YWCA for his first lesson.

He was quite happy to see so many dogs and people there.
There was a lot of GSDs, 4 golden, 1 labrador, 2 chihuahua, 2 silkies and 1 shi tzu. I think Shu was the youngest participant on that day.

Since it was his first lesson, we were asked to just follow what the rest of the group is doing....... which are basically, heel, sit, turn left/right, down, stay.
Shu was quite confused and refused to walk along most of the time. Sometimes he just lay on the ground - even the pulling of choke chain doesn't help to move him. He did ok on the sitting part though.

Since it is only the first lesson, I just want him to socialise with the other doggies. He is very friendly to people but I was not sure how is his behaviour towards other dogs. He did not get many chances to meet other doggies in our neighbourhood. It seems he is friendly towards the doggies as well. But got to be careful as some of the dogs there are quite hostile.

After his training, he was dead tired he slept through 3 hrs without waking up - my brother even shake his body! That's a first time....

This coming Sunday will be his 2nd lesson but unfortunately, I have to attend a compulsory company teambuilding exercise in Lumut for the weekend. I have requested my brother to bring Shu for his class, but that will depend on whether my brother can wake up in time for it or not. Class start at 10am -12noon.

Big Big Bone

Last Sunday I bought a very big rawhide bone for Shu to play with. He was so happy having it, he carry with him wherever he goes. The bone is quite big and he looks quite funny carrying it around the house. However, this is the first time he was very possesive of his toys. He wouldn't let us touch it. When we approach him, he will quickly run off with his bone and hide at a corner or under a chair. Luckily, he didn't growl at us when we approach. If not, I would have taken it away.

I only let him play with it for around 1 hour on Sunday. Shu still manage to make half of the bone drenched with his saliva so I have to leave it outside to dry a bit.

Yesterday, I return the bone back to Shu and let him play with it for 2 hours. He manage to chew one of the corner off. When I wanted to take the bone away, he quickly ran away with it. In the end, I have to exchange it with some treats. I only manage to take the remainder of the bone away. Shu just won't part away with the corner piece. My brother was quite frustrated as he feels that shu is being very stuborn and the bone is encouraging his possesiveness behaviour. He chased him around and manage to corner him in my room under my rattan chair. Shu was so preoccupied with the bone and the chase and so scare of my brother, he forgot to go outside to pee. He end up peeing at the rattan chair in my room! What a mess....... I end up locking him in his crate, threw the corner piece in the dustbin and spring clean my room. Sigh! what a tiring day.......

Today as a punishment I didn't let Shu play with the rawhide bone. Maybe I will let him play in the weekend. I did took some photos of Shu with the bone on Sunday - I will post it later!

Just kind of successfully training Shu on the hand command yesterday.

I put a kibble on the palm of my hand and close it. Then I extend my hand and said "hand". I put one of his front paw on my hand and then only open up my palm to release the kibble. After a few times, he will automatically put his paw on my hand so that he can eat the kibbles.

Speaking of kibbles, he just finished his NutriEdge 3.6kg pack yesterday and I bought a 15kg one. Hmmm, he seems to finish his package of kibbles very fast and I always forget to keep track of how long does the food last. So as a reminder, I am going to put this on the blog. Replenishing his kibbles is going to make me very bankrupt .........

Jumping

Yesterday, shushu managed to jump onto my bed!

He was left freely inside my room yesterday as I pity him being locked up in the crate after being so free during the holidays.
Since I always left him inside my room when i am at home, I do not forsee any problem and he is also never allowed on my bed. Furthermore, he is still only 3 months plus. He do occasionally managed to put his front paws on my bed but i always scolded him and push him down.

However, during the 4 hours coped up in my room, he managed to learn how to jump up on my bed. After that, he even chew up my ball pen, a greeting card and some bank statements (which are on my desk beside the bed) and make a whole mess. My dad was the first to find out, as he found shushu asleep peacefully on my bed with all the bits of paper scattering when he come home. However, he did put him back on his crate before he left for his evening hike.

When I come home, I just open the crate and to my surprise, shu promptly demonstated his new skill and sat on my bed feeling very proud of himself. Well, that earn him a big whack from the roll up newspaper and a 24/7 survelliance from me. I also got a big lecture from my dad about hygiene when he come back from his hiking. Shu is now required to be crate at night when i am sleeping.

To date, he did not try to jump up on my bed again after kena whack by the newspaper. (touch wood). Actually, the way he jump up on the bed was very well done - hehe, too bad i didn't managed to capture it on the camera - but we can't let him know that - don't we?.)

shu's 3rd vacination

Yesterday we brought shu to his vet for his 3rd vacination. He was very naughty there, running around and trying to chew the plant in the clinic.

His vet help to clean his ear, which is quite clean - just a little bit of wax near the ear canal, and gave him his worm tablet. When come to his vacination time, normally before the vet stick the needle into him, he will start struggling and whimper. However, yesterday he didn't even make a sound! What a brave boy. I did make a comment to his vet that he is getting braver but his vet reply probably he didn't feel it so much as compared to his 2nd injection because his skin has grown thicker! ><

The vet also check his weight - which is ok, but can still feed him a little bit more - haha, shu must be very happy getting this news as he is a eating machine.

His eyes were also checked as they were sightly reddish - and the vet gave him some eyes drop for treatment. The vet said maybe some infection as he likes to sniff around and eat stuff and something may have got into his eyes - nothing serious.

I also bought some heart worm tablet from the vet. The advise was either to start now or wait until he is 6 months. I decided to start early.

When we reached home, he is still very playful and active. I was quite surprise as when he took his second injection he just come back and slept the whole afternoon away. However, when approaching evening, we can see that he started not feeling well, he keep trying to chew stuff, getting a bit aggressive and moody. He dislike it when we put him inside the playpen (barking non stop which he usually don't) and stick to us like glue.

In the end, I have to put him inside his crate and let him alone so he can sleep. Luckily, this morning he is feeling much more better and has revert back to his usual self.

shu is 3 months old!!!

Yes, shu is 3 months old now!!

Though I have shu for about 5 weeks only, it seems like a long time as taking care of a puppy is not as easy as it seems. Not just only feeding him, cleaning his poo and pee, playing with it and grooming but also sometimes unexpected things may happen. For me, the first scare being the vomiting episode whereby the vet suspected him of contracting parvovirus.... we have to keep him under close supervision (aka putting him in his crate most of the time). After 2 days of vomitting and losing his appetite, he suddenly become so skinny (and lose all his puppy fat). Then 1 week later, before he can recover, his fur started to drop like there is no tomorrow. He has bald patches all over the body. We have to rush him to the vet again for checkup and vet told us that shu might be allergic to his puppy shampoo. I was like - it can't be, the shampoo was recommended by the pet shop - all natural ingredient, no more tears and super gentle puppy shampoo. Expensive too - but the vet said not every puppy is the same and different dogs can be allergic to different stuff.

At that point of time, he really look hideous =_=. Thin, gangly with long legs that are so skinny, and somemore with patches of fur missing all over the body. I got so many comments that he look very ugly (even uglier than street dogs - anjing liar), that he look sicky, and that I didn't feed him enough and worse - that I mistreat my puppy from friends and relatives when they met him.

Everyday when I look at him, my heart ache. I felt like I must have done something wrong to make such a cute & healthy puppy become like this. I keep thinking that if I have more experience, had read more or learn more - he won't turn out to be like this. However, since it has already turn out this way, we try our best to give him all our attention, love and care and hope he will regain his health and look. We bring him for walk, play with him, feed him medicine and suppplement and spend whatever time we can spare for him. Little by little, his legs and body grow bigger (and fatter - hehe) and the fur stop dropping that much.

Today, he look much more fine now - not as beautiful as when he was at 2 months (shorter fur now after most of it dropping) but at least much more healthier than when he is sick. Besides that, it was also in a way lucky that he did not contract parvovirus as what the vet suspected. I did read through the articles on parvovirus at that time and it was really horrifying.

So - at the milestone of 3 months old (sound like very old liao), I hope shu will keep on growing and stay healthy always! Good luck to Shushu!!

Shu got very sick on 29 November 2006. He usually finish all his food within 5 minutes n can still give u the expression "ask for more" but yesterday morning he pick at his food n didn't eat at all. Since he was not that energetic as usual, I decided to leave him inside my room instead of putting him in his crate before I leave for work.

When I got home at lunch time, I discover shu laying at his cushion and there was a huge pile of vomit on the cushion as well! I carry him to the porch for him to relieve himself and he diarhea. He vomit 3 more times and didn't want to take any water or his lunch. I quickly rush him to the vet and got some medication for him.

The vet gave him some antibotic and vomit/diarhea medication. He also told me not to let him run around (which will upset his stomach more) and put him inside his crate instead, and only to give him water and food (half of the ration) at night. He said there is 2 possibility - 1) he swallow something which did not agree with his stomach (he really like to pick up everything and tried to swallow them =_=); or 2) he may be infected with parvovirus! (shock). I got to observe him to 2 more days and if at any time he vomit / diarhea and there is blood in them, this will confirm that he has the virus and has to be admitted....poor shu. He only finish 2 vacination so far and his last one is due on 18 Dec 2006.

first week home

Shu was borned on 18 September 2006. Shu has 4 other siblings, 1 brother and 3 sister. We took Shu back from the breeder on the 11 September 2006.

The week before we took him back, we were rushing to get all his stuff ready - crate, food bowl, toys, kibbles, brush, shampoo, etc. It was really hectic.
